Ingredients

SERVINGS: 4–6 Serving(s)
  • 1 loaf bread (challah or brioche is best)
  • 5 large eggs
  • 1½ cups eggnog
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon nutmeg
  • 4 tablespoons butter, divided
  • maple syrup to pour

Preparation

Cut bread into thick slices. Crack eggs into a mixing bowl and add eggnog. Add vanilla, cinnamon and nutmeg. Whisk all ingredients together until combined well.

Place half of the bread in a shallow baking dish or large bowl. Pour half of the egg mixture over the bread and turn each piece over until it is completely coated.

Heat a skillet or griddle to medium-low. Add 1 tablespoon butter and allow to melt completely. Add as many pieces of bread as will fit in the pan. Toast until golden brown. Flip and repeat on the other side.

Once the bread is toasted on both sides, remove and set aside. Melt another tablespoon of butter and repeat with another batch of bread. Continue until all the bread is toasted. Serve with maple syrup to pour over.
