FOOD FOR THOUGHT

Summer is here! In Michigan those three words make everyone happy. WOW what a winter and spring we had here is southeastern Michigan. And now we get to enjoy our beautiful state and all of the good summer fun and food.

Looking for fun? Check out Big Red Orchard and see what they are doing to turn an orchard into a dining and educational destination.

Our food stories in this issue are amazing. How can anyone go into the city of Detroit and not visit Slows bar BQ? See what Chef Michael Matevia is up to. If meat is not your desired culinary pleasure, then it is worth the drive to Farmington to visit Chive Kitchen. This vegan vegetarian restaurant is a must visit. Drive out to Ann Arbor and wet your whistle at Wolverine Brewing Company and see why they are the talk of the town.

Look to the notable section of this issue and you’ll find some very hard working folks that are making a difference in our community. Laura from Milford Spice Company has created a company that is providing spice blends for every dish you can think of. Check out her website and you will not only see an array of spice blends, you’ll come away with some dinner ideas. Happy Belly is bringing the art of paleo eating to our community, you can visit them at the Royal Oak Farmers’ Market. Cooper Street Cookies started as an idea when Elaine Surnow found a long lost family recipe. See where the nd has taken them.

Want to meet one of the happiest people in Southeastern Michigan? Take a look at "The Happy Farmer” and meet Alex Ball, a delightful farmer with a very positive outlook.

There is a buzz going on in the metro Detroit area from Detroit Underground Omakase where the diner puts the menu into the hands of the chef.

We would also like to share this photo of our good friend Tom Isaia, the owner and founder of Coee Express in Plymouth Michigan. We want to thank all of the readers that contacted us to tell us how much you enjoyed the story on Tom and Coee Express... but where was Tom’s photo? Well, we missed that one, so here is Tom now.

Thanks for being a part of the edible WOW community.

Cheers,
— Kate and Robb Harper Publishers
