Antipasto
Antipasto (plural antipasti) is a starter, often served as a light appetizer at social gatherings.
It can be as much or as little as you like.
For this antipasto, we asked Rocco’s Italian Deli in midtown Detroit to share some favorites from their delicatessen counter (pictured).
A traditional antipasto contains some or all of the following:
• Cured meats (prosciutto di Parma, coppa and finocchiona, traditional Italian pork cold cuts commonly called salume or salami, pictured)
• Pickled vegetables
• Hard cheeses (Parmigiano-Reggiano and Piave, pictured)
• Smoked semi-soft cheese (smoked Fontina, pictured)
• Soft cheeses
