Try our recipes for Pesto, Chimichurri, and Compound Butter using the last of fresh herbs from the garden.

Herbs are used for flavor and fragrance to brighten soups, salads, vinaigrettes or sauces. They are easy to grow and require little maintenance even in Michigan’s changing climate. Our warm days and cooler nights are partial to hardy herbs.

Chives, mint, lavender, parsley, oregano, thyme and rosemary all thrive through the first frost. More delicate herbs such as basil, cilantro and dill will be available until the last of our warm fall days. Consider potting a few herb plants and take them indoors to freshen up all your winter dishes.
